Congratulations to TY student India Hughes who was recently awarded the Jack Henderson Medal by the Classical Association of Ireland for achieving the highest mark in the country in the 2025 Junior Cycle Classics exam.

Well done to Maisy Healy and Fiadh Woods who proudly represented the school in the Republic of Ireland U15’s Schools match v Northern Ireland. Maisy was the captain of the Team and both Maisy & Fiadh contributed to the 6-0 win and won Player of The Match awards. Congratulations to both players, we are very proud.

Congratulations to Eleanor Fanning, in Second Year, who took part in the UCD Junior Debating quarter finals. Eleanor proposed the motion, “This House believes that countries with a poor human rights record should not be allowed to host International events.” Well done, Eleanor!

SciFest at Holy Faith Clontarf

Congratulations to all the TY students who exhibited their projects in our second in-house SciFest@School in Holy Faith Clontarf, on Friday. SciFest is a national STEM fair programme for second-level students, encouraging a love of STEM and inquiry-based learning. The programme is funded primarily by Intel Ireland, Boston Scientific, EirGrid, Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals and the Department of Education. Students demonstrated their knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and maths through their creative and innovative projects. The overall winner was “Investigating the impact of biodegradable products on soil quality” by Ella Wang and Yiming Xu. Runner up prize went to “How coaches affect female players” by Orlaith Benham, Áine O’Dwyer, and India Hughes.

The “EirGrid Cleaner Climate” rosette ans Student choice Award went to “Solar Oven vs Gas Oven” by Alison Hynes and Ellen McGowan. The runner up student choice award went to “Feeling good about your appearance affects your performance in sport” by Aoibheann Geraghty, Leah Forde, and Oriel Thompson. The “Mallinckrodt STEM” rosette went to “How to get rid of a body Sustainably” by Louise Gallogly, Eliza O’Reilly Doyle, and Sarah Jane Mac Dermot. The Scifest award went to “How does cosmetic treatments effect our health” by Issy Mc Govern, Zoe Whyms, and Orlaith Conlon. The Scifest 20th anniversary award went to “The effect of caffeine on physical vs mental performance” by Maia O’Regan and Lucy Smith.

A big thank you goes to 6th years BT Young Scientists 2024 rosette winner Phoenix Hickson-Pitt, and Sara Hanney, for judging alongside Scifest Judge Catherine Tattersall and teacher Ms Tyrell. Thank you also to Ms O’Brien for organizing the event, and to first and second year teachers who allowed their students come see the fair. Commenting on the success of the science fair Sheila Porter, Founder and CEO of SciFest added: “Since its nationwide launch in 2011, SciFest@School has grown remarkably. I am consistently impressed by the enthusiasm and commitment shown by the students. SciFest@School serves as a vibrant celebration of STEM subjects, encouraging students to extend beyond the confines of the classroom, apply their scientific knowledge, and engage in creative and investigative projects. The accomplishments of these students are truly inspiring, reflecting not only their own efforts but also the dedication and support provided by their teachers.”

Congratulations to Saoirse McCarthy at the All Ireland Cross Country Champs

Saoirse McCarthy in second year represented HFC on Saturday at the All Ireland Cross Country Championships. This was an incredible achievement to make it to the All Irelands. Saoirse finshed 34th after a great race. Well done Saoirse.
Outdoor Track and Field Athletics races and events will be next up on Athletics calendar.

Leinster Debating Semi Final

Congratulations to Emma Kearns (6th Year) for reaching the semi-finals of the Leinster School Debates Competition. Emma reached the top 16 teams and individual speakers. The semi-finals were held in UCD on Tuesday, 24th Feb. Emma opposed the motion ‘ This House Opposes the narrative that, in times of individual crisis (debt, illness, death of a family member) people must significantly prioritize collective well-being at the expense of individual well-being’

Well done Emma on representing the school so well. We are very proud of your achievement!

Eleanor Fanning and Lucia Wallace in second year took part in the UCD Junior Debating Octo-finals last night. Both debated the motion, “This House believes that Reality television does more harm than good.” The girls are to be commended for their excellent performance. Eleanor Fanning has qualified as an individual speaker and will progress to the next round. Well done Lucia & Eleanor!

Leinster Debating Quarter Finals

Congratulations to our senior debaters- Arianna Ceraldi, Phoenix Hickson-Pitt, Emma Kearns, Rachel Casey, Alannah Hamill (6th Years) and Rachel Morrissey (TY) who all got through to the quarter finals of the Leinster Debates. The quarter finals were held in Trinity College on Tuesday evening, 10th Feb. The motion was ‘This House as the government of a newly decolonized country, would seek to appease rather than oppose their former colonial rulers.’ We are very proud of all the girls for getting this far in the competition. Out of 197 competitors they had come in the top 32 teams and individual speakers.The sixth year debaters are to be particularly commended for their resilience and commitment as debates took place in the middle of their mocks.

Thank you to 6th Years- Fae O’Doherty, Grace Maloney, Sophie Morris, Vicky Breen and Sophie Timmins who joined us on the night to support the girls

Well done to Emma Kearns who has qualified for the semi-finals, to be held on Feb 24th in UCD.

European Club X Country Championships

Congratulations to Rachel Ardiff (5th Yr) and Ayana O’Callaghan (TY) who competed at the club Cross Country Europeans in Portugal at the weekend. Rachel came 4th in the U20 race and Ayana came 5th in the U18 race. Two impressive performances from the girls.

Congratulations to TY Lucie O’Keeffe again as she has super success at the Leinster Long Course Championship coming home with 2 golds in 1500FC & 800 FC under 16. Silver in 400FC. Bronze in 200 FC & 100 Fly. Plus 3 golds in Relays
