Holy Faith Green Schools committee was set up in September 2021. The Green Schools ethos is based on promoting long-term, whole-school action for the environment. Green Schools is a student-led programme with involvement from the wider community. The programme is operated and coordinated by the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce (FEE member for Ireland). Schools are awarded Green Flags after a two year process of working on a theme.
In the 2021/22 school year, Holy Faith students met and formed a team with members from 1st to 6th year. They worked on the Theme of Litter and Waste and have made good progress in raising awareness of the importance of recycling and disposing of waste appropriately.
The students worked with the school management to install green bins around the school. They made posters to let students know what goes into different bins.
They participated in the Neat Streets programme and attended a Neat Streets conference in the Aviva stadium. They also had a Buns-for-Battery cake sale where they collected over 4,000 batteries.
