Water Safety Awards 2026

October 16, 2026

Congratulations to our wonderful 6th Years, Cara, Aoibheann and Laura, who received a Rescue Appreciation Award at the ceremony held on Tuesday, 13th October, at the Mansion House.

On 6 May 2026, Head Girl Cara Lynch and two fellow rescuers responded to a Coast Guard alert about a swimmer in serious difficulty at the entrance to Malahide Estuary. The trio launched their RIB and, on reaching the casualty, brought them aboard and transported them safely to Malahide Marina, where they were handed over to emergency services. Cara’s calm presence and teamwork helped ensure the swimmer made a full recovery.

Four young members of the 5th Port Dollymount Sea Scouts, including Aoibheann Conlon and Laura Daly, responded when a swimmer became trapped beneath a bridge at Dollymount on 31 May 2026. During a leadership training exercise, the team immediately relaunched their boat, reached the casualty and brought them safely to shore. Their courage, seamanship and teamwork demonstrated the real value of youth water-safety training.

We are incredibly proud of Cara, Aoibheann and Laura for their bravery, quick thinking and commitment to helping others. A fantastic achievement and a wonderful example of young people making a real difference in their community!
